| Modenas are a beautiful breed of Fancy Pigeons, originating in ITALY, from the town of Modena where they are still flying around. They were introduced into the British Isles around the 1880's. The national Modena Club was formed in 1929 amalgamating the Southern and Scottish Clubs with the Modena Club to form one Club. Our Standard of Excellence has been in existence since then with little change the expectation of the change was to promote and enhance the breed. The Modena pigeon is a very popular bird and the Club is an active and enthusiastic group of Fanciers all hoping to breed the perfect specimen and win at the shows. The club presently is concerned that Larger Modenas not complying with our Standard of Excellence are being produced and we are trying to address that. We have an enthusiastic membership who readily support all our club activities and have the largest entry of any breed at most shows. We have close ties with other European breeders of the English Modena some of whom still visit our shows. |
